is the "art & science" of tagging images for electronic retrieval
- whether that retrieval is your computer file system, a software system or the
internet.  How you apply keywords to an image is determined by where your
images are housed, who will be searching for them and how the images are
intended to be used (the audience).  The job of a particular keyword is to
link the searcher to the image they want.  Job one is understanding who is
looking for your images and for what purpose.  If you tag an image in a
way that is meaningful to you, you can easily find it yourself.  But what
if someone else needs to find that image?  Have you considered how they
may approach the search?  Keywording in a nutshell is applying the
necessary terms to an image so that the searcher is able to use personally
relevant terms to find it.  It’s a simple explanation for a very complex
activity in a monumentally complex, internet-connected world… 

Kirsti O’Sullivan is the founder and
managing director of Keywording.com. After working for several
years in knowledge management for Accenture, Kirsti joined a dynamic RF stock
company. During her tenure in the stock industry she recognized that keywording
was a critical factor in image sales and an area under-served in the marketplace.
This was the beginning of Keywording.com. Drawing on her stock
experience and data management expertise, she developed proprietary software
and a unique business model for keywording as an outsourced service. Realizing
her vision for quality, consistent keywording, Kirsti launched Keywording.com in early 2003 and
has since built a worldwide client base. She currently manages the business out
of Portland, Oregon.

It’s the annual No Hold Barred Print Competition, bring your favorite image and enter a competition judged by your peers. Its fun!

Yes, we are starting the planning for our 2012 Awards Banquet. Last years has had so much talk about how good it was. We will be planning something as good, but hopefully even better. More door prizes! Come celebrate as we award the Photographer Of The Year, Member Of The Year and the Presidents Award. Enjoy some great food, mingle with fellow photographers and have a great evening! Don’t miss this, those who missed last year were pretty bummed!
